Two CCRI volunteers lauded for philanthropy
Dec. 4, 2012
The Community College of Rhode Island Foundation and Alumni Association honored two of its volunteers during the Association of Fundraising Professionals Rhode Island Chapter’s community awards breakfast on Nov. 20, at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston. The event coincides with National Philanthropy Day to recognize the impact philanthropic activities and volunteerism have on the community.
Judith E. Maccarone ’99, a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, and Nancy McMahon, a Foundation trustee, were recognized as Partners in Philanthropy for their leadership and contributions to the college and its mission.
Maccarone graduated from CCRI in 1999 and is a vice president at Bank of America. She has served on the alumni board since 2009. In this volunteer role, she works to support CCRI students through increasing scholarships and awards that reduce their college expenses. Because of her positive student experience at CCRI, Maccarone’s passion is to “pay it forward” and build relationships with current students, strengthening the alumni community.
Nancy McMahon serves as vice president of human resources at The Miriam Hospital and director of workforce development at Lifespan. She began volunteering for the college in 2007 as a member of the steering committee for the Foundation’s $5.5 million capital campaign called, “Imagine: The Campaign for Endless Possibilities,” connecting the college with potential donors in the health care industry. McMahon joined the Foundation as a trustee in 2009. In this role, she serves as secretary and co-chairs the Foundation’s Changing Lives Celebration, the organization’s flagship fundraiser. A generous donor, McMahon supports the Foundation’s mission to secure funding for the college and raise awareness of its value in the community.
“Judy and Nancy are extraordinary volunteers who go above and beyond the call of duty to serve the Community College of Rhode Island,” said President Ray Di Pasquale. “They truly deserve this honor. On behalf of the students, faculty and staff, I thank them for their generosity and commitment to CCRI.”
Maccarone and McMahon were two of 65 corporations, small businesses, individuals and groups honored as Partners in Philanthropy during the annual event, which gives Rhode Island nonprofits an opportunity to thank volunteers for their support and generosity. In 2011, the college selected Michael Archetto ’75, a former member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, and David Monti ’72, a Foundation trustee, for this honor.
