Banner FAQ's

Which browsers will support Banner 7?

The Browsers that will support Banner 7 are:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer v6 & 7 - with Sun Microsystems Java1.5.0
  • Netscape v7.0x - with Sun Microsystems Java1.5.0

Why does my browser crash when I try to access Banner using Internet Explorer 7 and Vista?

Neither IE 7 nor Windows Vista is officially supported by Banner. However, Banner does work with IE7.

Can I change my screen setup so I don't have to scroll in Banner 7 forms?

The user interface in Banner 7 has been designed to run on computer monitors with a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. If your screen display is set to 800 x 600 pixels, you will have to scroll significantly in order to use Banner.

  • To change your screen resolution, follow these steps:
  • Right-click anywhere on your Windows desktop and choose Properties from the pop-up menu.
  • In the Display Properties window, click on the Settings tab and check the screen resolution. If it is not set to 1024 by 768 pixels you can change it here. When done, click Apply and then OK.
There are two web browser sessions open when I run Banner 7. Are both sessions necessary?

Yes. One of the windows is called the Oracle Application Server Forms Service. The other window is called the Oracle Developer Forms Runtime and this is the window where the Banner application runs.

Will pop-up blockers interfere with Banner 7?

It is very likely that pop-up blockers may interfere with the proper running of Banner 7 as there are pop-up windows. If you encounter difficulties in getting Banner 7 forms to run, turning off the pop-up blocker is recommended.

Are there any special plug-ins that need to be installed to run Banner 7?

Version 1.5.0 of Sun Microsystems Java needs to be installed. Once you click on the Banner Login button for the first time, you will be prompted to install the Java plugin . Follow the on-screen directions. If Java does not install or receive and error message when trying to do so, follow the steps outlined in our documentation "Install Microsystems Java?"

I already have the Java plugin on my computer to run another application. Why do I have to reinstall it again?

Different versions of Java may be required to run different applications. Banner 7 requires Java 1.5.0

I am in Banner 7 and when I click on another Internet Explorer shortcut, my session of Banner is terminated. Why?

The shortcut detects that Internet Explorer is already running and attempts to reuse the same Internet Explorer session thus terminating the Java session that Internet Explorer is running for Banner .

To prevent other web links from closing a Banner session.

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Select Tools from the menu
  • Select Internet Options
  • Click the Advanced Tab
  • Uncheck Reuse windows for launching shortcuts.
  • Click Apply, then OK
  • Close Internet Explorer and then reopen it
I typed in the correct form name but the form does not open. Why?

Not all forms are available to all users. You must have the correct security privileges to view certain forms. To determine if the form is not loading due to security reasons, look in the lower left corner of the Banner form.

What do I do as I am getting the message "The application's digital signature cannot be verified.  Do you want to run the application?"

To avoid receiving this message, click in the box in front of "Always trust content from this publisher" and then click the Run button.
