E-Mail Virus Hoaxes
While not as destructive as a real computer virus, a virus hoax can be just as irritating and is not without some problems. If you receive e-mail that claims to warn of a new computer virus and to "forward this warning to everyone you know", STOP! You may be an unknowing participant in a virus hoax.
If you are unsure about unconfirmed warnings about viruses and Trojans messages please call the Help Desk at x1112 or forward a copy to the help desk helpdesk@ccri.edu before sending any alerts around campus.
You may refer to the Sophos Hoaxes page that uncovers hoaxes on a regular basis.
The Sophos web
site also provides information about virus hoaxes, chain letters, scams
and misunderstandings to aid companies and individuals.
