Teaching and Learning with Technology

Using Games in the Classroom

Bunny Vanable and Bill Pellicio have started experimenting with games as a way for students to interact with their content.

Bunny has been using the commercial software Crossword Compiler to create puzzles that help her students with review of terminology. She has received a really positive response from her students. Since Bunny was unable to make this meeting, Gene Grande from IT stepped in to demonstrate the software.

Bill Pellicio has been experimenting with Hot Potatoes software, which is free for educators and provides access to six different types of games with one download. He has also had a very positive response from his students who can use the games to reinforce learning and provide review opportunities. Bill felt that Crossword Compiler was a little easier to use but that Hot Potatoes does a great job at no cost.

If you'd like a demonstration of this software or would like Bill to walk you through the steps he took to create his puzzles with either Crossword Compiler or Hot Potatoes, please feel free to contact him or to drop in during his mentoring hours.
