Self-register iPad for network connectivity
On the iPad home screen, select Settings
- Under Settings, tap Wi-Fi and set the switch to On.
- Look for the network named "CCRI" and click on the network name to connect to it.
- Confirm that you are connected to the network by looking for the blue check mark next to the CCRI network name and the Wi-fi icon in the top right of the screen.
- Press the home button on the iPad to return to the main screen and click Safari to open a web browser.
- Browse to any URL via the location bar and you should be redirected to
the CCRI home page. - Choose the Network Registration option.
- Enter your networkID and password and follow the on screen instructions to register your device.
Once you receive the confirmation message, your registration should be completed in 20 minutes.
Register and sync iPad with iTunes
- Plug in your iPad to your computer with iTunes open
- If prompted to install the latest iPad software, choose Install. Be sure to leave the iPad plugged in while it installs and restarts. This should take about 5 minutes.
- On the welcome to your new iPad screen, click Continue
- Log in with your Apple iTunes account. If you do not have an Apple account, create one through Create Account in the Store menu.
- Fill out your contact information and click Submit
- Ensure that your iPad is selected under Devices to see sync options
- On the Summary tab, check the Encrypt iPad backup box and enter a password for your backup.
- On the Apps tab, select Sync Apps and select any existing applications you may have.
You may also choose to sync other types of media from the other tabs
How to set a password on your iPad
To prevent unauthorized access, it is imperative that you set a password on your iPad. Once your iPad is powered without a password, no one will be able to access e-mail, documents, instant messages, calendar, etc. Even if you do not have sensitive information on your iPad, your account could be used to compromise CCRI systems and data.
- Power on the iPad and go to Settings>General>Passcode Lock
- Set your four-digit password. You will need to enter this twice. (not related to you)
- As an additional security measure, you can choose to turn on Erase Data which will erase all data on your iPad after 10 consecutive failed passcode attempts.
- Click the General arrow at the top to return to the General Settings
- Under the General Settings, it is recommended to set an Auto-Lock time in case you fail to lock your screen.
How to setup email
- Turn system on by pressing button in the center bottom of the iPad
- Slide the "slide to unlock" arrow to the right
- Tap "Settings"
- Tap' mail, Contacts, Calendars'
- Enter that emails respective password
- Tap 'Add Account'
- Tap 'Microsoft Exchange'
- Tap In the box labeled 'Email' a keyboard will appear enter your email address (Example: username@ccri.edu)
- Tap In the box labeled 'Username' a keyboard will appear enter your CCRI username (Example username)
- Tap In the box labeled 'Password' a keyboard will appear enter your CCRI password (Example nbhxxxx)
Congratulations! You are now able to send/receive email and view your calendar
Back up your iPad to iTunes
Perform regular backups your iPad by plugging it into a Mac or Windows computer with iTunes installed. This will enable you to restore your iPad if the current one is ever lost, stolen, or broken.
- Plug your iPad into your PC (that has iTunes installed) with the iPad USB cable
- iTunes (By default ) launches and automatically synchronizes your iPad data, settings, and applications.
Sensitive information
iPads can store data and files, never store files with sensitive information on them. Utilize "cloud" storage solutions like iCloud, DropBox, Box.Net, SugarSync, etc. Keep in mind there is no guarantee of privacy.
