Kerri H. Friel is an Associate Professor in Dental Heath Department at the Community College of Rhode Island where she is also the Director of the Dental Assisting Program. She is a URI alumna having received both her Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene and Master’s degree in Adult Education. She has been a licensed dental hygienist for more than two decades, a Certified Dental Assistant since 2002, and a Certified Orthodontic Assistant since 2000. She also holds a permit to administer both local anesthesia and nitrous oxide and has Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification. Prior to her faculty appointment in 2000, she worked in Rhode Island practices specializing in general dentistry and orthodontics. She is an active member of both the Rhode Island Dental Assistant and Hygiene Associations and currently serves as Immediate Past President of the State Dental Assistants association. Kerri was appointed to the Board of Examiners in Dentistry by Governor Chafee in 2013, where she is serving her second term. She is also and active member in the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments (formerly NERB) as a Dental Hygiene Examiner. Kerri is also a member of the Rhode Island Oral Health Commission. Outside of work, Kerri volunteers with the ALS Association of Rhode Island where she was named Volunteer of the Year in 2012.
