Spring Symposium

Registration is now open for Spring Symposium!
Join us for a Student Engagement-themed day of learning from CCRI colleagues and special guest Chris Hakala. Chris Hakala has over 30 years’ experience as a professor and Center Director in higher education institutions. Over the years, his research has focused on reading comprehension, teaching and learning, effective faculty development and assessment. In addition, Chris has been invited to present at many conferences around the country as well as dozens of colleges and universities on topics ranging from reading narrative text to how to effectively manage large classes, or how to engage students in ways that maximize student learning. He is currently the President of the New England Faculty Development Consortium and Co-Chair of the Program Committee for the Professional and Organizational Developers Network (POD). At Springfield, Chris runs the Center for Excellence In Teaching, Learning and Scholarship and teaches courses in the psychology department.
Other sessions will include a panel discussion on 7-Week class instructors, a presentation on Writing in the Disciplines, and information about Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences, and more!
Breakfast pastry, coffee, and lunch will be served. Registration will close on Monday, April 29th at noon so that enough food can be ordered.

The Spring Symposium will include an Instructional Fair again this year! If you’d like to submit a poster, please fill out this brief form. If you’d like CTE to print your poster, please send it to [email protected] by May 3rd.

Disaggregated Data Requests
In February 2022, I (Rachel) was able to see my course data for General Psychology (a course I have taught many times here at CCRI) disaggregated by race and ethnicity. The results were surprising and difficult for me to face. Despite that, I’m very glad that I did it, and I’m looking forward to trying some new strategies in my courses to try to close the equity gaps I found.
