Knights fall on the Road to Massasoit

Warwick, R.I. – October 3, 2018: The CCRI Knights men's soccer team travelled to Brockton, MA to face their Region XXI, DI rivals in the Massasoit Community College Warriors. The Knights struggled to get into top gear on the muddy natural grass pitch and fell victim to a potent Warrior attack. Massasoit prevailed victorious, taking a 5-0 score line. The loss put CCRI's season record to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Region XXI play.
On a rainy, dark muddy pitch the Knights midfield struggled to get traction, not getting any kind of flow. Edmilo Goncalves (Praia, Cape Verde) and Dante Turano (Westerly, RI) fought hard and led the team with grit and intensity. However, the rest of the team found it difficult to get engaged in the battle. Mouhamadou Diouf (Dakar, Senegal) and Jonathan Alvarez (La Sea d'Urgell, Catalonia) could not get in sync offensively, which made it difficult for the team to create offense.
Massasoit's first goal came after their forward appeared to have pulled Knights' Elton Soares Sequiera (Central Falls, RI) from behind leaving him open to dribble and shoot. The referee deemed otherwise and Elton could not recover, 1-0 Massasoit. The second goal came off a mistake in the back which left the Massasoit player alone against Juan Gonzalez (Providence, RI) who was in the net for the Knights. At half time it was 2-0 and the Knights were still in the fight.
In the second half the Knight came out with more patience and started to move the ball which led to good shots on goal by Prince Sawyer (Pawtucket, RI) and Mouhamadou Diouf. Anthony Serluca (Westerly, RI) and Edmilo Goncalves also had a look or two at goal. Randy Kouadio (East Providence, RI) had a one on one with the goalie but was not able to finish. The Knights suffered an own goal after a bad clearance and the 5th goal came in the last 30 seconds of the game. The Knights will head to the training pitch as they get ready for the next game this upcoming weekend.
The Knights will next take the next be in action on Saturday, October 6th for a home match against the Skylanders of Sussex Community College. Kickoff is slotted for 1pm.
