Warwick, R.I. – September 26, 2017: The CCRI Lady Knights soccer team traveled to Newton, NJ to play the Skylanders of Sussex County Community College for a game on Saturday the 23rd. the Lady Knights fell to the Skylanders 4-0. With the loss the Lady Knights record drops to 1-3 on the season.
Both teams battled closely for the first half until the 38th minute when Sussex broke the deadlock with a goal from Karleigh Noll giving the Skylanders a 1-0 lead. Though the Lady Knights were facing a tough opponent while dealing with multiple injury issues, they still battled the Skylanders very closely for the entire contest as the score remained 1-0 until just 15 minutes left in the game when Brelyn Cusano scored another SCCC goal to give them a 2-0 advantage. SCCC would tally two more late goals to win by the final count of 4-0. Despite the score line, the Lady Knights received excellent play by Goalkeeper Eliza Rohrer (Bozeman, Montana). In addition their defensive corps led by Tri-Captain Isabella Rinne (Richmond, RI) and Julia Hill(Warren, RI) helped Rohrer helped keep the game close versus a very talented squad from Sussex County.
After the game Head Coach Jim McGirr commented “I am proud of this group for fighting through all the adversity they have faced so far this season.”
The next game for the Lady Knights will be Saturday September 30th when they travel to Southern Maine Community College in Portland, ME to play the Seawolves for a game at 2:00pm.
