Warwick, R.I. – November 14, 2017: The CCRI Knights traveled to New Rochelle, NY to take part in the Monroe College Classic over the weekend. On Friday night, the Knights took on Division I powerhouse, the Mustangs of Monroe College. The Knights fell to Monroe 94-48. This loss dropped their record to 1-2 overall on the season.

The Knights came out of the gate firing on Friday night but fell down early. They were not shooting well and the Mustangs were able to suffocate them defensively. They were unable to take good care of the ball and made costly turnovers, this paired with the fact they were shooting 25% from the field is a “recipe for an unsuccessful game” according to Head Coach Rick Harris. At the end of the half, the Knights found themselves down 39-20.

In the second half, things got worse for the Knights. Finding themselves down by 19, they needed to take more risks and try to claw their way back into the game. They were unable to, and it left them vulnerable on the defensive end. The Knights continued to fight but were unable to mount a comeback and lost the game with a score of 94-48.

The Knights had one player in double figures, freshman Josh Williams (Atlanta, GA). He added one rebound and two steals. Jovahn Thomas (Wareham, MA) came off the bench to be somewhat of a sparkplug for the team, adding five points, five rebounds, one block and one steal.

After the game, the Knights turned their sights towards the ASA New York Avengers, who they would take on Saturday afternoon.
