Warwick, R.I. – September 10, 2015: The CCRI Lady Knights women’s soccer team traveled to Springfield, MA to take on the Rams of Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) for a Region XXI non-league game. The Lady Knights easily handled the Rams of STCC 7-0. With the victory CCRI improves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in Region XXI play.
The Lady Knights recorded first half goals from sophomore midfielder Catherine Lopes (Warren, RI), freshman midfielder Samantha Canales (Cranston, RI) and sophomore forward Amber Duhamel (Pawtucket, RI). Picking up assists were sophomore Co-Captain Kendra Levesque (Warwick, RI) and sophomore forward Kyanna Ivey-Jones (Pawtucket, RI).
With a commanding 3-0 lead to begin the second half of play, the Lady Knights continued their assault upon the Springfield goal. Co-Captain Kendra Levesque scored two goals five minutes apart to keep CCRI in command. One was assisted by freshman forward Emma Manosh (Tiverton, RI) and the other was unassisted. Two more goals rounded out the scoring on the day. Midfielder Samantha Canales scored her second of the game on an assist from sophomore Co-Captain Meghan Rousseau (Richmond, RI) and freshman Emma Manosh scored an unassisted tally.
Kendra Levesque and Samantha Canales each scored twice while freshman Emma Manosh collected a goal and an assist on the day. Freshman goalkeeper Ashley VanBemmelen (North Providence, RI) recorded the first shutout victory of her career.
The Lady Knights will travel to Rochester, NY in a week to take on Rowan College at Burlington County Saturday at 12noon and No. 10 ranked (NJCAA DI poll) Monroe Community College Sunday at 12noon.
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
