Warwick, R.I. – October 5, 2015: CCRI hosted the Tri State Invite on Saturday where there was both a Men’s and Women’s race. The cold rainy weather was not ideal for the runners but the race was a success as there was over 100 runners in each race.
Kody Sankey (Cumberland, RI) was the first Knight to cross the finish line with a time of 30 minutes and 22 seconds, his personal best for an 8k. Sankey averaged 6:06 minute miles and finished in 42nd. The second Knight to cross the finish line was Jared Gruslin (North Smithfield), who finished 54th with a time of 31:46, which tied his career best time. Gruslin averaged 6:23 on his miles. Britton Laney (Pascoag, RI) was the next Knight to cross with a time of 33:10 (6:40 avg.), placing him 68th. Ian Fletcher (Lincoln, RI) crossed the finish line for the Knights at 39:43, averaging just under eight minutes on his miles.
Head Coach Gregg Cornell had this to say about his runners, “The guys ran tough on a cold raw windy day. Kody and Jared had great races finishing in the middle of a very competitive field and I am proud in how they competed.”
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes.
