Warwick, R.I. – November 16, 2015: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team continued play in the Dean College Invitational Sunday by facing the rams of the Naval Academy Preparatory School. The Lady Knights won a hard fought game versus Navy Prep winning 53-43. With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 2-5 on the season.
Once again the Lady Knights began the game slowly as Navy Prep took an 18-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. CCRI began to build momentum as they outscored Navy Prep 14-12 in the quarter helped by two back-to-back 3-pointers from Mackenzie Brayman (North Stonington, CT), and two 3-pointers and eight second quarter points from Alexis Antonacci (Plainview, NY). With CCRI still training 30-23 as the second half began the Lady Knights continued to chip away at the lead by creating turnovers and blocking shots. With the solid defensive pressure the Lady Knights tied the game 38-38 by the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter the Lady Knights were able to convert foul shots and continued to play solid defense to win by the final score or 53-43 in a tough defensive battle. For the game the Lady Knights shot 83% from the free throw line while playing great defensively with seven blocked shots and 10 steals.
Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Co-Captain Haley Beausoleil (Plainfield, CT) with a team-high 15 points, including 10 in the second half with four steals, four rebounds and two assists while shooting 7-8 from the charity stripe. Beausoleil was helped by Kennethah Harden (Roosevelt, NY) who added 10 points with seven during the second half comeback with six rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals while going 6-7 from the free throw line. Also helping CCRI was Alexis Antonacci with eight points including two 3-pointers and Mackenzie Brayman with six points on two 3-pointers with two blocked shots.
The next game for the Lady Knights will be Tuesday the 17th when they travel to Middletown, NY to play the Colts of Orange County Community College at 6:00pm.
