Warwick, R.I. – May 23, 2016: the CCRI Knights golf team continued play in the Region XXI Golf Tournament at the Ranch golf club in Southwick, MA on Friday. The Knight held a 52-stroke lead and built upon the first day success with more dominating play on day two to secure their fourth consecutive Region XXI Title! Leading the way for the Knights was Captain Josh Macera (Cranston, RI) who was the medalist with the Tournament-low score which also earned him All-Region XXI honors. Joining Macera earning All-Region XXI honors was Matt O'Brien (Portsmouth, RI) who finished in third place and Dan Hayes (Pawtucket, RI) finished in fifth place to give CCRI a trio of players earning All-Region XXI honors.
On day one the Knights put up the best team score with a low score of 326 followed by Dean at 378 and Springfield Tech at 392. And on day two Knights' Captain Josh Macera shot the best round of the tournament with an impressive 74 after shooting a 75 on the first day to give him a two-day total of 149 which was the low score for the tournament earning him Tournament Medalist and All-Region XXI honors. Macera was followed by Matt O'Brien who shot an impressive 83 after shooting a 79 on the first day to give him a two-day total of 162 putting him in third place overall and earning him All-Region XXI honors. Dan Hayes shot a 79 on the second day helped by a remarkable 30-foot Eagle putt on the ninth hole his 79 combined with a first day 87 gave him a two-day total of 166 which was good for fifth place and All-Region XXI honors. Rounding out the Knights top four golfers for the team score was Eric Carlos (Newport, RI) who shot an 82 on the second day combined with an 86 the first day gave him a two-day of 168 which was good for seventh place overall. With those top four performances for the Knights they finished with a two-day total of 644 giving them a 97 stroke victory for the and fourth Consecutive Region XXI Championship! Finishing second was Dean College at 741 and Springfield Tech carded a 765 to round out the team scoring.
Rounding out the Knights competitors was Sam Caron (Cumberland, RI) who shot a 100 on the second day to go with an 86 day one for a 186 two-day total. Meg Rocheleau (Warwick, RI) shot a 105 on the second day combined with a 97 day one for a two-day total of 202. Jackie French (Scituate, RI) shot a 109 combined with a 119 for a two-day total of 228.
