Warwick, R.I. – May 17, 2016: Though the Knights baseball season ended earlier than they would have liked, they did receive some good news with five players earning All-Region XXI honors. The All-Region Knights were: Dylan Brooks (Lookeba, OK), Edison Mercado (Providence, RI), Austin Davis (Hollywood, FL), Enzo Clemente (Plantation, FL) and Justin Jacobsen (Fairhaven, MA).

Dylan Brooks was the top ranked player in all of Region XXI. Brooks was a one man wrecking crew batting an impressive .349 while leading the Knights with 38 hits, seven home runs, eight doubles, and 43 RBIs and was tied for team lead with two triples. Dylan also added 21 runs scored and three stolen bases. Many of his hits were to take the lead or get the Knights back into a game as Brooks’ flair for the dramatic never ceases to amaze the CCRI crowds at Fell Field. Some of his heroics included hitting a solo blast to defeat Mitchell College and a three Run Bomb that downed eventual Region XXI Champion Dena College in their first meeting. His prodigious bombs would tower out of Fell Field leaving opposing pitchers dismayed as he rounded the bases. Brooks will look to build upon his excellent numbers as he returns for his sophomore campaign.

Edison Mercado was the Knights starting catcher with a rifle for an arm he kept opposing base runners at bay. In addition, Mercado led the Knights in batting average with an impressive .443 batting average with 31 hits including three doubles and three home runs with 15 RBIs and 18 runs scored. Edison had six multi-hit games including back to back three hit games versus Holyoke and CCBC-Catonsville late in the season when the Knights really needed the offense. Mercado will definitely be missed as he moves on to a four-year institution to continue his baseball career.

Justin Jacobsen

Austin Davis was another very potent bat at the top of the line-up for the Knights usually batting out of the two-hole. Davis batted .398 with 35 hits including four doubles two triples and three Home Runs with 16 RBIs and a team-leading 31 runs scored. Davis was the igniter on the team who started many of the Knights’ rallies by getting on base for the heart of the order. When Davis got hot at the plate he was very hard to get out registering four games where he had at least three hits including a five-hit game and two four-hit games. Austin also displayed some power to do along with his ability to hit the ball to all fields. Davis will look to build upon his excellent numbers as he returns for his sophomore campaign.

Enzo Clemente was another one of the Knights’ mashers who hit a few long home runs. Clemente batted .322 with 298 hits including seven doubles and three home runs with 13 RBIs and 19 runs scored. Clemente along with Davis, Mercado and Brooks formed a formidable middle of the line-up for the Knights that generated numerous runs to help CCRI win many games. Clemente will look to build upon his excellent numbers as he returns for his sophomore campaign.

Justin Jacobsen was one of the Knights top pitchers and threw many excellent games for the Knights. Jacobsen led CCRI with an eye-popping 1.64 ERA with a 3-3 record and 31 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched. Justin appeared in nine games and also did not allow a Home Run to an opposing batter. Jacobsen will look to build upon his excellent numbers as he returns for his sophomore campaign.
