Warwick, R.I. – May 10, 2016: The CCRI Knights baseball team traveled to Dean College in Franklin, MA to play the Bulldogs of Dean for a critical Region XXI league doubleheader. The Knights lost two 2-1 heartbreakers to the Bulldogs. With the losses, the Knights fall to 16-13 on the season and 7-7 in Region XXI play and 3-5 in their league and were eliminated from Post-season play.

Game 1: CCRI- 1 Dean- 2

On the mound for the Knights was Justin Jacobsen (Fairhaven, MA) who pitched very well but got little only one run to support his effort. Jacobsen threw six very strong innings allowing two runs, just one of them earned, on six hits walking one and striking out five Bulldogs batters but was the hard-luck loser in the game.

Leading the way offensively for the Knights was Co-Captain Brandon Escalante (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) who had two hits and the lose run scored while Travis Collins (Cranston, RI) had the lone RBI for the Knights. The Knights only managed four more hits on the day one apiece from Edwin Pichardo (Hollywood, FL), Edison Mercado (Providence, RI), Austin Davis (Hollywood, FL) and Dylan Brooks (Lookeba, OK). The Knights could only manage six hit in total which was not enough to support Jacobsen’s excellent effort on the mound.

Game 2: CCRI- 1 Dean- 2

On the mound for the Knights in game two was Wally Luna (Providence, RI) who also pitched very well for CCRI throwing three innings of one run ball on four hits, walking two and striking out one but did not factor into the decision. Jack Livingston (East Lyme, CT) came in in relief of Luna and threw 4 2/3 innings allowing one run on six hits, walking three and striking out five but once again was the hard-luck loser in the game though he pitched very well.

Leading the way offensively for CCRI was Edison Mercado who hit a solo blast but that was the only run the Knights would score he was assisted by Robert Paulino (Miramar, FL) with two hits. But once again for the most part eh bats went silent as they only had two more hits one from Enzo Clemente (Plantation, FL) and one form Edwin Pichardo. Unfortunately for the Knights this would mark the end of a very good season that came-up just short of the play-offs.
