Warwick, R.I. – July 16, 2009: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team hosted the Colts of Orange County Community College on Saturday afternoon at the Vincent A Cullen Fieldhouse in Warwick. The Lady Knights defeated the Colts 69-47. With the he victory the Lady Knights improve to 13-13 on the season.
The Lady Knights controlled the game from the opening tip as they raced out to a 19-11 lead by the end of the first quarter riding the hot shooting Mackenzie Brayman (North Stonington, CT) who sank her first two 3-pointers of the game to give CCRI a 6-2 lead early in the game. The Lady Knights extended their lead to eight points by the end of the first quarter and 17 points by halftime leading 34-17. The Lady Knights widened the margin to 22 points by the end of the third quarter with the score 55-33 led by Brayman and Carol Rodriguez (Pawtucket, RI) who scored 16 and 12 second half points respectively. Both teams would score 14 in the fourth quarter to give CCRI the 69-47 victory.
Leading the way for The Lady Knights was Mackenzie Brayman with a career-high 22 points with an assist and a blocked shot and Carol Rodriguez with her first career double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds while adding three steals. Also helping was Ashley Correa (Providence, RI) who scored nine points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals, Kennethah Harden (Roosevelt, NY) who scored six points with 12 rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal and Co-Captain Haley Beausoleil (Plainfield, CT) with six points, seven rebounds, three steals and two steals.
The Lady Knights have not time to rest as they head for New Rochelle, NY to play the Mustangs of Monroe College Sunday at 2:00pm.
