Warwick, R.I. – February 10, 2016: The CCRI Knights basketball team traveled to Wellesley, MA on Tuesday night to face off against Region XXI opponent Mass Bay Community College. The Knights were able to get the Win on the road by the score of 90-72. The win now brings the Knights record to 14-9 on the season and an impressive 11-2 in Region XXI games.
The two teams played a tightly contested first half trading score for score that led to multiple lead changes. The Knights kept scoring though and took the lead for good about 13 minutes into the half. Freshman Adrian La Fleur (Sydney, Australia) continued his hot shooting by knocking down three first half 3-pointers on his way to eight points in the half. Tri-Captain Edvaldo Ferreira (Cape Verde) was dominant in the half, pouring in 11 points to help the Knights take an eight point lead into the break, 42-34.
Ferreira continued his dominance in the second half as the Knights built their lead. Ferreira controlled the paint with help from Jordan Grant (New London, CT) and Josh Mann (Detroit, MI). The trio combined for 38 points in the paint for the Knights as they took their eight point halftime lead and grew it to 23, midway in the second half. The Knights tolled from there, finishing with an 18 point advantage, 90-72.
Ferreira finished with a season high 26 points to go along with 11 rebounds and seven blocks. It was the freshman’s 18th double-double on the season as he continues to put up remarkable numbers. Adrian La Fleur had another excellent all-around game as he finished with 16 points, eight assists, three rebounds and three steals.
Jordan Grant also tied his season high with 16 points adding four rebounds and two blocks. Josh Mann posted 12 points and five boards while Mike DeJesus (Cranston, RI) hit three 3-pointers on his way to 11 points.
Head Coach Rick Harris had this to say after the game, "Nice to get away tonight and clear our heads with a solid win over a good Mass Bay team. Once the referee threw up the jump ball to start the game the young men were ready to move on from Saturday. I spoke to them about playing a complete game and taking care of the ball and we did just that with only five turnovers. Our ball handlers Jessy Taveras (Cranston, RI) and Adrian La Fleur were superb with 15 combined assists and just 1 turnover. We also had great inside outside balance as evident with Edvaldo's 26 points, Jordan's 16 and Josh Mann's 12. Solid road win in a gym that we traditionally struggle in due to it being one of the smaller courts we play on. A team really has to be precise with their half court execution when trying to beat the home Buccaneers on it. Most of all it was nice to see the positive energy and happy comments coming from our young men following the team victory.”
