Warwick, R.I. – February 1, 2016: The CCRI indoor track team traveled to Boston University in Boston, MA to compete in the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday. It was a non-team scoring event but CCRI did have some excellent individual efforts against top-notch competition.
Leading the Knights was Kody Sankey (Cumberland, RI) who ran a personal-best for the indoor 800 meter run in 2 minutes 2.57 seconds to win his heat and place 117th overall. Sankey’s effort qualifies him for the 2016 NJCAA Division III (Outdoor) Track & Field National Championships to be hosted by Holyoke Community College at Westfield State University in Westfield, MA on May 6th and 7th.
Other Knights competing in the Terrier Classic included Connor Williamson (West Warwick, RI) who placed 67th in the 60m hurdles in a time of 9.89 seconds. Williamson also placed 65th in Long Jump with a leap of 5.40meters. Giovanni Colon (Providence, RI) placed 94th in the 60m dash in 7.92 seconds and placed 176th in the 200m dash in 25.48 seconds. Rounding out the Knights competitors was sophomore Jared Gruslin (North Smithfield, RI) who placed 212th in the mile run 5:21.04.
The next meet for the Knights will be this Saturday February the 6th at 10:00am when they travel to Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT to compete in the Wesleyan Indoor Track Invitational II.
