Warwick, R.I. – April 20, 2016: the CCRI Knights golf team traveled to New England Country Club in Bellingham, MA the home golf course of Dean College on Tuesday for a match versus Dean, UMass Stockbridge with other golfers (not full teams) from Bristol CC, Mass Bay CC, Massasoit CC, Holyoke CC and Springfield Tech. The Knights charted their first two victories of the year shooting a 333 defeating Dean who shot a 358 and UMass Stockbridge who shot a 368. With the two victories the Knights improve to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Region XXI play.
As a team CCRI shot a team score of 333, their best round of the year. The Knights’ squad was led by Captain Josh Macera (Cranston, RI) who tore up the golf course with an impressive low score of 79 followed by Matt O’Brien (Portsmouth, MA) who also shot very well with a score of 81. The two other individual scores used by CCRI were Dan Hayes (Pawtucket, RI) with an 86 while Sam Caron (Cumberland, RI) charted an 87. Two other players for CCRI also competed but their scores were not used for the team total: Eric Carlos (Newport, RI) had an89 while Meg Rocheleau (Warwick, RI) had a 117. As a team the Knights’ 333 were 25-strokes better than Dean and 35 better than UMass-Stockbridge. Bristol, Massasoit, Mass bay, Holyoke and Springfield Tech did have golfers compete but they did not have enough to register a team score.
The next match for the Knights will be Thursday when they travel to the Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, MA the home course of Holyoke Community College for another regional match.
