The CCRI Men’s Soccer team fell to Monroe Community College 5-0 at Flanagan Campus in Lincoln on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Knights fell to 0-4-1 on the season, while maintaining 0-1-1 record in Region XXI play.
The Tribunes got on the board first in the 11th minute on a header by Jack Quinn off of a corner kick, putting Monroe up 1-0. Just 10 minutes later, Monroe struck again. Midfielder Sam De St. Croix collected the ball just over midfield and fired a perfectly placed shot that floated over keeper Steven Zelepos (Stonington, CT) to increase the Tribunes’ lead to 2-0.
The Knights were nearly able to cut their deficit in half late in the first half when Nathan Dacosta (Warwick, RI) headed a corner kick that just trickled wide.
Monroe took advantage of the Knights’ lack of execution, adding two goals by Mo Carlon and David Antunez within the first 15 minutes of the second half to make it 4-0. The Tribunes added another goal late when Meinwaseh Nyeayea finished off a great pass from Omar Pena to make it 5-0.
Forwards Evan Gaudreau (Jamestown, RI) and Junior Robert (Providence, RI) were hard at work once again for CCRI, but couldn’t capitalize on any of their opportunities. Robert led the Knights with two shots on goal in the loss.
The Knights will be back in action on Tuesday in search of their first win of the season. CCRI will travel to Holyoke, MA to take on the Cougars of Holyoke Community College for a 4:00 p.m. start.
