Warwick, R.I. – May 13, 2015: The CCRI coed tennis team continued play in the NJCAA Division III Tennis Nationals Championships at Collin College in Plano, TX.
In No. 2 doubles in the National Semifinals the top seeded team of Kevin Lankowicz and Erik Ujvari of Suffolk County College defeated the team of Max Mendoza (West Warwick, RI) and Sam Perry (North Smithfield, RI) 6-0 and 6-0. In the quarterfinal the CCRI No. 1 doubles team of Troy Derrick (East Providence, RI) and Justin Allen (Warwick, RI) who had a bye fell to Sebastian Alvarez and Andrew Reiley of Suffolk County College 6-0 and 6-2. Derrick and Allen came back later in the day and fell to the team of Conner Prasad and Triston Spennato of Brookdale CC 7-6, 3-6 and 7-5.
Also competing in the back draw consolation round for CCRI were multiple singles and doubles teams. No 1 singles in the consolation semifinals Troy Derrick defeated Seguru Kaneda of SUNY-Delhi 6-1 and 6-0. In No 2 singles in the consolation semifinals Jonathan Vankouwenberg of Onondaga CC defeated Justin Allen 5-7, 6-4 and 6-3. In No. 3 singles in the consolation quarterfinals Zach Giovanine of Illinois Valley CC defeated Sam Perry 6-4 and 6-2. In No. 4 singles in the consolation quarterfinals Robert Zawadzki of SUNY-Delhi defeated Max Mendoza 6-0 and 6-0. And rounding out the Knights’ competitors was No. 5 singles flight in the consolation quarterfinals with Alex Stevens of Ocean County College defeating Jacquelyn French (Scituate, RI) 6-1 and 6-0.
