Lady Knights overcome Orange County 60-51!

Warwick, R.I. – January 20, 2015: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team hosted the Colts of Orange County Community College from Middletown, NY for a game on Saturday. The Lady Knights defeated the Colts 60-51. With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 5-14 on the season.

The Lady Knights were out to exact revenge after falling to the Colts 56-62 earlier in the season in New York. Both teams traded baskets for the first half of the first half and were tied 22-22. The Lady Knights closed out the half with an impressive 13-3 run to take a 10-point halftime lead 35-25. The Lady Knights were able to extend their lead to 15 points the Colts tried to cut into the CCRI lead but only got within nine points in the final minute as the Lady Knights would secure the 60-51 victory.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Tri-Captain Jesse Ossian (Chandler, AZ) with a game-high 18 points on six 3-pointers with five rebounds, four steals, two assists and a blocked shot followed by Tri-Captain Amber Edwards (Boston, MA) who had 15 points with a game-high seven assists and two steals. Also helping CCRI was Tri-Captain LaShana Tolliver (Albany, NY) with 10 points, nine rebounds, three blocked shots, three assists, and two steals and Haley Beausoleil (Plainfield, CT) added nine points, six rebounds, and five assists.

The Lady Knights will travel to Portland, ME Sunday at 12noon to take on the Seawolves of Southern Maine Community College.

The Community College of Rhode Island, New England's largest comprehensive community college, enrolls 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
