Warwick, R.I. – January 13, 2015: The Men's track and field team kicked-off the 2015 season at the Roxbury Tiger Open Invitational Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, MA.
Shamar Spruill (Providence, RI) led the way for the Knights with a third place 42'9-3/4" (13.05m) toss in the Weight Throw. Leaper Connor Williamson (West Warwick, RI) placed also had a third place finish in the Triple Jump with a 39'4-1/2" (12.00m) leap. Williamson came back to place sixth in the Long Jump with a leap of 19'4" feet (5.89m). Lee Mandanici (Medina, OH) placed 10th in the 200m dash with a time of 23.83 seconds. Javier Vasquez (Providence, RI) also had a very good performance placing fourth in the High Jump with a leap of 5'7" (1.70m). Vasquez also placed 22nd in the 200m with a time of 25.39 seconds.
Tylar Rodrigues (North Providence, RI) placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 31'5-3/4" (9.51m). Britton Laney (Pascoag, RI) placed 14th in the 800m run with a time of two minutes 21.32 seconds followed closely by Ian Anderson (Warwick, RI) who placed 16th with a time of 2:23.70. The relay team of Mandanici, Vasquez, Laney and Anderson placed 6th in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:50.62. Rounding out the Knights top performances was Ranier Martinez (North Providence, RI) placed 13th in the Long Jump with a 16'5-3/4" (5.02m) leap. Martinez also placed 34th in the 60m dash in a time of 8.35 seconds.
Knights' Head Coach Gregg Cornell commented after the Meet: "These were some very good efforts to start the 2015 CCRI Track and Field season."
The next Meet for the Knights will be Saturday the 24th when they travel to Middletown, CT to compete in the Wesleyan Invitational beginning at 10:00am.
