Knights Defeat Navy Prep 10-1!

Warwick, R.I. – April 22, 2015: The Knights baseball team traveled to Newport on Tuesday to play against the Rams of the Naval Academy Prep School. CCRI was able to defeat Navy Prep by the score of 10-1 and put their record at 12-9 on the year.

The Knights offensive attack was led by Sophomore Austin Barry (North Kingstown, RI) who went four for five on the day and finished with three RBI’s. Co-Captain Eddie Apice (North Kingstown, RI)had two hits on the day while scoring twice and knocking in one run. James Riley-Garnett, who is from Newport, had a nice day in his hometown going two for four with a run scored and a RBI.

Dave Hopkins (East Greenwich, RI) had an interesting stat day as he had a hit and two RBI’s while also pitching one scoreless inning and striking out two. Wally Luna (Providence, RI) started the game for the Knights and went a solid five innings, striking out eight batters along the way and earning the win for the Knights.

Head Coach Ken Hopkins added “Our team defense has been stellar and it showed again today, putting up another zero in the error column. Doing the little things goes a long way in baseball.”

The Knights play again on Wednesday April 22, 2015 against Mitchell College JV at Mitchell College in New London, CT. Their next home games will be this coming weekend April 25-26 against UConn-Avery Point in back to back doubleheaders.
