Warwick, R.I. – May 1, 2015: In the regular season home finale, the CCRI Knights baseball team hosted the Ravens of the Franklin Pierce Junior Varsity team on Wednesday. The Knights kept their bats hot and won 11-1 in a five inning mercy rule ended game. The win puts the Knights at 16-12 on the year with two regular season games left.
The Knights offense on the day was led by Sophomore Austin Barry (North Kingstown, RI) who had two hits to go along with three RBI’s and two runs scored. Also with two hits in the game were fellow Sophomores James Riley-Garnett (Newport, RI) and Diego Campos (Providence, RI) who also both added one RBI a piece. Co-Captain Eddie Apice (North Kingstown, RI) chipped in two runs scored, two RBI’s, a hit and one steal.
Sophomore Stew Braman (Middletown, RI), who is usually the Knights closer, started the game for the Knights and looked excellent. Braman went all five innings of the game not allowing an earned run while also striking out four and giving up only three hits. The performance gave Braman his third win on the year to go along with three saves.
The Knights will take on UConn Avery-Point this Saturday in a doubleheader to finish off the final games of the regular season. They will look to keep rolling and gain some more momentum before postseason play that starts next weekend.
