Warwick, R.I. – April 28, 2015: The CCRI Knights baseball team defeated Holyoke Community College on Monday afternoon by the score of 9-0 in a Region XXI matchup. The win was big for the Knights to get the team rolling again right before the playoffs. The win put the Knights Region record at 5-6 on the year and their overall record at 14-12.
Dave Hopkins (East Greenwich, RI) took a day off from his usual shortstop duties to take the mound for the Knights on Monday. Hopkins didn’t just pitch for the Knights, he was utterly dominant. The East Greenwich native was able to throw a complete game shutout while only allowing a mere one hit. Hopkins also was missing bats left and right while striking out 12 hitters on his way to the victory.
The Knights also backed up Hopkins’ performance with 16 hits and nine runs. Ryan Rotondo (Warwick, RI), Co-Captain TJ Boyajian (Warwick, RI), Austin Barry (North Kingstown, RI), James Riley-Garnett (Newport, RI) and Hopkins himself all had two hits on the day while Riley-Garnett added three RBI’s and Hopkins added two. Co-Captain Eddie Apice (North Kingstown, RI) added three hits and two runs scored. Rotondo, Apice, Boyajian and Ramiel Rodriguez (Providence, RI) all had a stolen base a piece on the day.
The Knights will face Navy Prep at home on Tuesday and then Franklin Pierce club team at home on Wednesday. CCRI will look to keep the bats hot as the post season quickly approaches.
