The CCRI Lady Knight’s women’s soccer team traveled to Springfield, MA this past Saturday to take on the Rams of Springfield Technical Community College for a Region XXI non-conference game. The Lady Knights defeated the Rams 6-0. With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 6-4-1 overall and 3-0 in Region XXI play.

The Lady Knights began to dominate the Rams right from the start of the match pinning Springfield in their own half of the field. But, the Lady Knights could not convert on the many opportunities that they created. However, in the 20th minute of play, freshman Selena Canales (Cranston, RI) gave CCRI their first goal of the day after taking a pass from freshman Stepheny Perez (Providence, RI). Just two minutes later sophomore midfielder Melissa Richards (Coventry, RI) scored off of a corner kick on a rare two assist play with Stepheny Perez and sophomore Jen Kittila (Warwick, RI) picking-up the assists on the play. Six minutes later in the 28th minute, freshman forward Carla Porras (Narragansett, RI) scored on yet another assist from Perez, her third assist of the half. Perez sent Porras in all alone on a breakaway for the Lady Knights third goal of the half.

Up 3-0 at the half, CCRI continued their onslaught on the Rams as Selena Canales connected on her second goal of the afternoon on a pass from Carla Porras giving the Lady Knights a commanding 4-0 lead. Just three minutes later Canales and Porras combined again for CCRI making the score 5-0, as Canales picked up her third goal of the match. The Lady Knights continued to dominate the Rams with numerous scoring opportunities. With ten minutes left in the match, sophomore midfielder Jen Kittila scored an unassisted goal on a Springfield turnover giving CCRI a 6-0 advantage and that’s how it would end.

For the day, Selena Canales tallied at hat trick with three goals on the day while Carla Porras picked up a goal and two assists. Stepheny Perez recorded three assists and Jen Kittila had a goal and an assist. Sophomore and Tri-Captain goalkeeper Alex Place (East Greenwich, RI) recorded her second consecutive shutout victory, her third on the season.
