Palkovic and DePina pace Knights’ runners at Mayors’ Cup!

The CCRI Knights cross country runners traveled to Franklin Park in Boston, MA to compete in the 23rd Annual Mayor’s Cup races.  Dave Palkovic (Middletown, RI) ran in the eight kilometer Men’s Championship race and finished 99th while the rest of the team competed in the 5k club race. In the Club Race the Knights finished 5th out of 10 teams with 79 total points while the Boston Athletic club won the 5k team event with 17 points.
 
Dave Palkovic competed in the Mayors cup 8k Men’s Championship race finishing in a time of 27 minutes 28 seconds to place 99th in a very competitive field of runners. The overall winner of the race was Cameron Bean running for the club team of Zap Fitness Reebok. Palkovic bettered his personal-best time on this course by 44 seconds.
       
The rest of the Knights’ team ran the Franklin Park five kilometer race placing 5th out of a ten team club field.

DepinaAlfredo DePina

Alfredo DePina (Central Falls, RI) led the Knights’ team placing 26th in a very good time of 18:29 followed by Britton Laney (Pascoag, RI) who placed 38th in a career-best time for a 5k of 18:56. Rounding out the Knights’ scores used for the three man team event was Isaiah Hector (Warwick, RI) who placed 45th in a time of 19:13, also running for the Knights was Joseph Gareri (Uxbridge, MA) who placed 133rd in a time of 21:39.
 
The next meet for the Knights will be Saturday November 9th when the Knights travel to Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, IA for the NJCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships for an 11:00am start.
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
