Two members of the CCRI Track and field team are competing at the NJCAA Division I Track and field National championships help at Mesa community College in Mesa Arizona. The two competitors for CCRI are Haley Beausoleil(Plainfield, CT) competing I the Javelin and Shenelle Teixeira(Barrington, RI) in the 400m hurdles.
On Thursday it was Haley Beausoleil who competed in the Javelin. Beausoleil finished 14th with a best throw of 33.71 meters (110’ 7”), which she did on her first throw, she also had throws of 32.8 meters and 32.29 meters. Winning the event was Sharon Toako of North Iowa Area Community College with a throw of 42.33 meters (138’ 10”).
On Friday Shenelle Teixeira will compete in the third heat of the 400m hurdles preliminaries set to begin at 8:30pm (Mountain time/two hours behind Eastern). Teixeira hopes to qualify for the finals of the 400meter hurdles which will be held Saturday at 7:20pm.
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
