The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team hosted the Tigers of Roxbury community college form Roxbury Crossings, MA on Thursday for a Region XXI non-league game.  The Knights defeated the Tigers 92-70. With the win the Knights improve to 16-7 overall and 9-2 in Region XXI play while Roxbury drops to 7-11 overall with the loss.

CCRI jumped out to an early 15-5 lead after only 5 minutes of play and stretched that lead to 20 points at half time, 46-26. Roxbury made a small run in the second half but never threatened as the Knights always were able to come up with a defensive stop and a big basket.

The CCRI Knights were led by sophomore Co-Captain Pat Marchand’s (Cranston, RI) second double-double in two games with 20 points and 18 rebounds. Also scoring in double-digits for the Knights was Rob Skinner (Winsted, CT) with 15 points, Co-Captain Anthony Jernigan (East Hartford, CT) with 12 points and Malieke Young (Providence, RI) added 10 points, including two 3-pointers.

After the game Head Coach Rick Harris commented, "The team played very well right out of the gate and put together 2 good halves of basketball. Defensively we held a very high scoring team well below their average and offensively we scored from close and long range. We now go down to Long Island to play 2 very strong DIII teams in Nassau County CC and Suffolk County CC this weekend."

The Knights have a busy weekend as they travel to New York for two games: Saturday they will face the Lions of Nassau Community College at 3:00pm and on Sunday they will face Suffolk community college at 12noon.
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
