It was an awesome outing for the Knights and Lady Knights Indoor Track and Field Squad at the 2014 Wesleyan II Invitational in Middletown, CT on Saturday.
The Lady Knights were led by Haley Beausoleil (Plainfield, CT) who won the 400m dash in a school record time of 1 minute 02.21 seconds. Then Beausoleil came back to place second in a season-best time of 27.92 seconds in the 200m dash. Haley also established a school record in the pole vault with a 2.00m jump that placed her fourth. Shenelle Teixeira (Barrington, RI) placed third in the 400m dash with a fine time of 1:03.07. In her first meet of the year Teondra Silva (Barrington, RI) placed fourth in the long jump with a 4.49m leap. Silva also placed 11th in the 200m dash with a time of 29.99.
On the men’s side, the Knights had three first place finishes on Saturday led by Samson Olowoporoku (Osun-State Nigeria) who won the 200m dash in a time of 24.05 seconds. Olowoporoku also placed fourth in the 400m dash in a season-best effort of 54.08 seconds. Sophomore Daniel Duquette (North Attleboro, MA) won the 600m dash in a nice time of 1:26.93. Duquette and Olowoporoku joined forces with Britton Laney (Pascoag, RI) and Joshua Rembert (Boston, MA) to win the 4x400m relay in a season-best time of 3:37.46. The effort was highlighted by Laney running a career-best leg in this relay with a 56.50 split. Britton also placed eighth in the 800m run in a career-best time of 2:21.38, and Rembert ran a fine 400m open race placing fifth in a time of 54.51 seconds.
None of this great running performances should be put in front of an outstanding day by the Knights’ field event student-athletes led by a new school record toss by shot putter Colin Cabral (Cumberland, RI) placing second in the event with a 12.74m (41’09.3/4”) effort. Cabral was joined by fellow thrower Kevin Redmond (South Kingstown, RI) who also threw well placing third behind Colin with his season-best toss of 11.46m (37’7.18”). Also competing in field events was Alex Correia (Woonsocket, RI) who placed second in the both the long jump, with a 5.91m (19’4.68”) leap in the Long jump and 12.60m (41’4.06”) leap in the triple jump.
