Teixeira leads Knights at USATFNE!


The Knights and Lady Knights had a strong showing Sunday at the USATFNE Championship held at Gordon Track Center on the campus of Harvard University.

The Knights and Lady Knights had a number of top ten finishes in the meet, highlighted by two from freshman Shenelle Teixeira (Barrington, RI), including a third place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 26.77 seconds, breaking the previous school record of 26.78 also held by her, and a sixth place finish in the 400m run with a season-best time of 1 minute 2.03 seconds. In the 400m run for the men, Samson Olowoporoku (Osun-State, Nigeria) put forth a career-best run, finishing in seventh with a time of 51.64.

Colin Cabral (Cumberland, RI) and Kevin Redmond (South Kingstown, RI) each had strong showings in the shot put, with Cabral notching seventh with a toss of 12.68m (41’7.25”) and Redmond finishing eleventh with a toss of 11.06m (36’3.5”).

The Knights had three runners in the 800m run, with the best finish coming from sophomore Daniel Duquette (North Attleboro, MA) at 21st place with a time of 2:02.37. Duquette’s performance was followed by a 62nd place finish by Britton Laney (Pascoag, RI), who finished with a time of 2:15.17, the second best of his career, and a 63rd place finish from Joseph Gareri (Uxbridge, MA) with a time of 2:22.11.

This meet was the last of the indoor season for the Knights and Lady Knights. Their first outdoor meet will take place at Bridgewater State University on March 22.
