The Knights used a 12-run first inning to put the game away right from the start in a 19-5 win over Holyoke Community College at Fell Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, the Knights pushed their winning streak to four games and also improved their overall record to 12-4.
After keeping Holyoke off the board in the top of the first, CCRI’s offense exploded for nine hits and 12 runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by two home runs from third baseman Zach Wood (Griswold, CT) to drive in five.
Jake Waldren (Phoenix, AZ) continued to produce, putting together another 3-for-3 performance at the plate with a two-run homer, a triple, and five RBI. Jake Tillman (Scituate, RI) also went 3-for-3 at the dish with three RBI, while Ryan O’Dell (Lincoln, RI) added two hits and four RBI for the Knights. Freshman designated hitter Steve Adams (Jacksonville, FL) chipped in with two hits and two runs scored.
Ben Duarte (East Providence, RI) got his first start of the season and pitched three solid innings, allowing six hits and five runs with a pair of strikeouts. Austin Barry (North Kingstown, RI) came on to pitch a solid fourth inning of shutout ball and closer Ryan Faria (Cranston, RI) came on to pitch a scoreless fifth inning, striking out two Holyoke batters en route to his first win of the season.
The Knights will play again at home on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. against the Penman from Southern New Hampshire University in search of their fifth straight win.
