10.20.12: Four CCRI Cross Country runners traveled to New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) Concord, NH to compete in the Yankee Conference Championship Cross Country race. The male runners were: Bobby Allen (Cranston, RI) and David Palkovic (Middletown, RI) and for the women: Meaghan Shanley (Warwick, RI) and Olivia Emerick (Cranston, RI).
On the men’s side Bobby Allen ran uncontested to win the race and reset his own record from the previous meet at NHTI running the 8k course in 25 minutes 53 seconds, besting his time of 25:55 from the week prior. David Palkovic ran very steadily finishing in 5th place in the same exact time from last week 29:36. For the women Olivia Emerick placed 30th in the women’s 6k in a time of 32:41 and Meaghan Shanley placed 39th in a time of 34:57.
Head Coach Gregg Cornell commented after the race “We look for the best showing by our runners in two weeks at the NJCAA Northeast District Championships. Robert (Allen) and David (Palkovic) once again run very consistent and strong.”
The Knights next meet will be Saturday November 3rd when they will travel to Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, MA to compete in the Division I Northeast District Championship. The men’s race will begin at 9:30am and the women at 10:30am.
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
