Seven Lady Knights earn All-Region Soccer honors!
The CCRI Lady Knights’ soccer team had another excellent year posting an impressive 10-5-2 record to capture their 12th consecutive Region XXI Title. In addition, the Lady Knights made it to the District E Championship game where they fell to District rival Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY. Though they fell in the District Championship game the Lady Knights did recently receive some great news with seven Lady Knights being named to the All-Region XXI team. They were: sophomore Co-Captain Cait McGarry (Warwick, RI), sophomore Co-Captain Britt LeClair (Westerly, RI), sophomore Jess Sandin (Warwick, RI), freshman Paige Oram (Burrillville, RI), freshman Erin Rodriguez (Tiverton, RI), Freshman Betti Worth (Manchester, England), and freshman Alex Place (East Greenwich, RI).
Co-Captain Cait McGarry (Warwick, RI) earns her second All-Region XXI honor. McGarry led the Lady Knights in scoring both years she played. In her sophomore campaign she was tied for team-high with 11 goals and a team-leading 18 assists for 40 total points. The 18 assists, is tied for third on the CCRI all-time assist list. In her freshman year Cait had 10 goals and a team-leading 14 assists for 34 total points. For her career she had 21 goals and is ranked second all-time with 32 assists and ranked No.8 on the CCRI All-time scoring list with 74 total points.
McGarry’s soccer acumen was unmatched she was the Lady Knights primary kicker for their set plays and corner kicks. Many of her assists came for set plays and corners as she would utilize her leg strength and amazing accuracy to find her teammates in the opponents’ scoring area.
Sophomore Jess Sandin (Warwick, RI) also earns her second All-Region XXI honor. In her sophomore campaign Jess was tied with McGarry for team lead with 11 goals and added two assists for 24 total points. As a freshman Sandin led the Lady Knights with 11 goals and added six assists for 28 total points which ranked her second on the team. For her career Sandin had 22 goals and eight assist for 52 total points. Jess has a nose for the ball and was always around to score on a rebound, set piece from McGarry or blasting long range shot of her own. Jess always moves towards the action and finds ways to utilize open space to create scoring opportunities.
Sophomore Co-Captain Britt LeClair (Westerly, RI) was another very important part of the Lady Knights success over the past two years. This year she served as one of the Lady Knights Co-Captains. LeClair scored eight goals with eight assist as a sophomore for 24 total points.
As a freshman Britt started out hot but had to battle through injuries as the season progressed. She still tallied seven goals and four assists for 18 totals points in just 10 games. For her career she scored 15 goals with 12 assists for 42 total points. LeClair is an aggressive player who also has a nose for the ball and let’s nothing stand in her way when she sees the ball or a scoring opportunity.
Freshman Paige Oram (Burrillville, RI) was a key addition to the 2012 Lady Knights’ soccer quad and was ranked third on the team with eight goals while adding three assists and fourth on the team with 21 total points. Oram’s athleticism set her apart she always took the field and played with tremendous passion and pace with a never say die attitude. Oram will be a key part of the Lady Knights’ success in 2013.
Freshman Betti Worth (Manchester, England) was undoubtedly the most physical, vocal and intense player on the 2012 Lady Knights’ team. Betti, a prized recruit from Manchester, England was always there to pick her teammates up, whether it be a “C’mon ladies!” to pick them up or setting the tone with physical play in the center of the soccer pitch. Worth also contributed on the box score scoring seven goals with three assists for 17 total points. Betti will be one of the Lady Knights’ team-leaders in 2013 and one CCRI opponents will look to mark.
Freshman Erin Rodrigues (Tiverton, RI) was the sweeper on the 2012 Lady Knights squad and continued the long line of successful sweepers at CCRI. The Lady Knights are always prideful of their defense and this year was no exception. Rodrigues was the last line of defense before the keeper and she helped the Lady Knights keep seven clean sheets throughout the 2012 season. In addition, Erin also added an assist and one total point to the Lady Knights’ offense.
Freshman Keeper Alex Place (East Greenwich, RI) was a monster in net for the Lady Knights. Though she is small in stature Place plays each game as if it was her last. Place always attacks the ball and makes tremendous eye-popping diving and lunging stops in net for CCRI. Alex had a great freshman campaign with seven shutouts and made over 100 saves during the 2012 season. Place will be another leader that CCRI will lean upon in 2013.
