The No. 16 ranked (NJCAA DII poll) CCRI Lady Knight’s women’s basketball team hosted the Region XXI/XV Super Regional Tournament this past weekend at the Vincent A. Cullen Fieldhouse located on the CCRI Knight Campus in Warwick.  On Saturday, the no. 1 seed Lady Knights hosted the no. 4 seed Colts of Orange County CC from Middletown, NY.  The Lady Knights easily handles the Colts 91-41.  With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 22-4 and advance to the Region tournament Championship game versus the defending National Champion Mustangs of Monroe College who defeated Dean College 81-72 in the other regional semi-final.  The Championship will be played at 1:00pm Sunday at the Cullen Fieldhouse.
It was an historic day at the Cullen field house as CCRI Lady Knights Co-Captain Jahira Smith (Brooklyn, NY) became CCRI’s all-time leading scorer.  About five minutes into the game Smith stole the ball and dribbled in for a lay-up to pass Amanda Ward (956) on the CCRI All-time scoring list.  Smith ended the game with 11 points and now has 964 career points. Head Coach Kate Lynch commented on her record setting sophomore "Jah is a tremendous athlete. She didn’t get the recognition that she deserved in high school, but I am so happy that she is receiving it now. She is a very special player and she is going to keep getting better. She has broken nearly all of the records at CCRI, but that is the furthest thing from her mind. She is a team first type player and that is hard to come by especially someone with her ability.” Lynch later added “I am honored to have had the privilege to not only coach Jahira, but get to know her as a person. As great of a ball player she is, she is an even better young lady. I am really excited to watch her continue to grow at the next level."

The game was never in question as the Lady Knights quickly jumped ahead of the Colts and never looked back taking a 50-15 lead into halftime and coasted to the 91-41 victory.

Also having an historic afternoon was sophomore Nyjah Porcher (New Britain, CT) who became the no. 3 all-time leading rebounder for CCRI with 499 rebounds passing Roxanne Reid (488). Porcher charted a double-double on the day with 17 points and 11 rebounds while freshman Lexi Barros (New Bedford, MA) led all scorers with 18 points while adding four assists and three steals.  Also having a big game was sophomore center Jenna Ayala (Patterson NJ) who had a season-high 12 points with six rebounds and two steals while Jahira Smith had 11 points, four assists and four steals and Moe Plummer (Fairfield, CT) added 10 points, four assist and three steals.
Coach Lynch added "I was very happy with our intensity level all game. I thought we stayed focused and did what we needed to do in order to advance to the Sunday. Everyone contributed."

The Lady Knights face Monroe College Sunday at 1:00pm at the Cullen Fieldhouse for the Tournament Championship.
