The CCRI men’s basketball team traveled to Charlestown, MA to play the Bulldogs of Bunker Hill Community College for a Region XXI non-league game on Saturday.  The Knights defeated the Bulldogs 95-72.  With the victory the Knights improve to 8-4 on the season and 4-2 in Region XXI play.

Both teams began the game sluggishly in this inter-league showdown before the Knights closed the first half with a 22-8 run to go into the break leading 48-34.  The Knights’ run was sparked by intense half-court pressure defense.  In the second half the Knights expended their lead to 20 points 62-42 within the first five minutes.  Both teams made some mini-runs but for the most part CCRI was able to regain a 20 point edge and go on to win by the final score of 95-72.

Leading the way for the Knights was sophomore Co-Captain Desmond Williams (Torrington, CT) scoring a game-high 23 points, a career-high eight assists and four steals.  Williams was helped by his backcourt mate and Co-Captain Bryan Yarce (Cranston, RI) who scored 16 points with three assists and two blocked shots and Pat Marchand (Cranston, RI) with 15 points and nine rebounds. Rounding out the Knights’ top performers was Elijah Okagbare (Bourne, MA) who added 10 points and five rebounds while Co-Captain Isaac Medeiros (Johnston, RI) added nine points, four rebounds and a blocked shot.

The Knights are back in action Wednesday the 19th at 6:00pm when they will host the Lions of Gateway Community College from New Haven, CT in another Region XXI non-league game at the Vincent A. Cullen Fieldhouse located on the CCRI Knight Campus in Warwick.
