Knights’ tennis goes 2-1 over weekend!

The CCRI tennis team had three matches beginning on Friday and going through Sunday and they went 2-1.  On Friday they played hosed the Broncos of SUNY-Delhi and won 8-1 On Saturday the Knights faced the Lazers of Onondaga Community College and fell 5-4. Finally, on Sunday faced the Timberwolves of SUNY Adirondack and won 6-3.  With the 2-1 record over the weekend their overall record improves to 6-6 for the season.
 
Friday
CCRI- 8 SUNY-Delhi- 1
In First Doubles John Chammat (Cumberland, RI) and Sean Gorman (South Kingstown, RI) defeated Eric Reed and Tom O’Halloran 8-4.  The Second Doubles team of Tim Holzinger (Foster, RI) and Ross Bouchard (South Kingstown, RI) defeated Sean O’Connell and Derrick Marra 8-2.  In Third Doubles Otniel Lopes (Pawtucket, RI) and Eddie Papineau (Scituate, RI) defeated Dillon Maxson and Rich Felter 8-1 to sweep the doubles matches.  In First Singles Eric Reed defeated Chammat 6-4, 4-6, and 6-4.  Second Singles Lopes defeated O’Halloran 6-3 and 6-4.  In Third Singles Bouchard defeated Tom Crosby 6-3 and 6-1.  In Fourth Singles Gorman defeated O’Connell 6-4 and 6-2.  In Firth Singles Holzinger defeated Maxson 6-3 and 6-1.  Finally in Sixth Singles Papineau beat Marra 7-5, 2-6 and 6-2.
 
Saturday
CCRI- 4 Onondaga- 5
In first Doubles Chammat and Gorman defeated Elliot Dunn and Andrew Parlow 8-1.  In Second Doubles Holzinger and Bouchard beat Richie Collins and Philip Reis 8-4.  In third Doubles Lopes and Papineau fell to Matt Shroder and Mike Mares 8-6 in a very close match. In first Singles Chammat beat Reed 8-3.  In Second Singles Lopes beat Dunn 8-3.  In Third Singles, Bouchard fell to Collins 8-6.  In Fourth Singles, Holzinger fell to Mares 8-6. In Sixth Singles, Papineau fell to Marra 8-6.  In total four matches were decided by a single game with the Knights coming out on the short end of the stick.             
 
 
Sunday
CCRI- 6 Adirondack- 3
In Frist Doubles, Chammat and Gorman beat Stephane Legris and Sean O’Neill 8-3.  In Second Doubles, Holzinger and Bouchard beat Matt Edwards and Shawn Weinberger 8-5.  In Third Doubles, Lopes and Papineau defeated Cody McCann and Shawn Nicholson 9-7 to complete the sweep of the doubles matches.    In first Singles Reed defeated Chammat 6-3 and 6-1.  In Second Doubles Lopes defeated Dunn 7-6, 5-7 and 6-4. In Third Singles Bouchard defeated Collins 6-1 and 6-1.  In Fourth Singles Gorman defeated Weinberger 6-2 and 6-2.  In Fifth Singles Holzinger fell to McCann 6-4, 0-6 and 6-4. Finally in Sixth Singles Papineau fell to Brown 6-1 and 6-4.
 
The Knights are back in action tomorrow Wednesday April 24th when they will travel to Fall River, MA to take on the Bees of Bristol Community College for a Region XXI showdown beginning at 3:30pm.
