Knights hammer Holyoke 13-0!
the CCRI Knights baseball team traveled to Holyoke, MA to play the Cougars for a Region XXI non-league game. The Knights defeated the Cougars 13-0. With the victory the Knights improve to 19-9 overall and 5-4 in Region XXI play.
CCRI- 13 Holyoke- 0 in seven innings by Mercy Rule
Matt Laferriere (Coventry, RI) picked up another win by pitching six scoreless innings giving up only five hits and recording nine strikeouts as the Knights pounded Holyoke 13-0. Marc Boutilier (Orlando, FL) came on to pitch a scoreless seventh inning to close out the game (game ended in seven innings due to the mercy rule).
Jacob Saley (Trumbull, CT) continued to swing a hot bat as he pounded out three hits, had two RBIs, and scored four runs to pace the CCRI attack. Joe Yankee (Lincoln, RI) had another big offensive game with two hits and two RBIs. While Ryan Wordell (Little Compton, RI) and Tyler Santaniello (Lincoln, RI) each connected on two run home runs to close out the scoring.
Head Coach Ken Hopkins was impressed stating: “I was impressed with the defense as the team played its fifth consecutive game without an error. It seems like everything is finally coming together with solid pitching, great defense, and timely hitting.”
The Knights have seven more games left this week including a huge regional doubleheader on Saturday against conference rival Dean College at 12noon at Fell Field located on the CCRI Knight Campus in Warwick. The next game for the Knights however will be Wednesday when they travel to Manchester, NH to play the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University JV for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00pm.
