No. 13 Ranked Lady Knights Master
Massasoit CC 7-0!
The No. 13 ranked (NSCAA) CCRI Lady Knights soccer team hosted the Warriors of Massasoit Community College for a Region XXI showdown. The Lady Knights blanked Massasoit CC 7-0. With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 6-1 on the season and 4-0 in Region XXI play.
The Lady Knights got goals from six different players. The scoring began with Sophomore Tri-Captain Lauren Saritelli (Coventry, RI) on an unassisted goal in the fourth minute of play. Five minutes later, Freshman Defender Alyssa DaSilva (Rehoboth, MA) scored an unassisted goal that found the upper part of the Massasoit net from 20-yards out. CCRI dominated throughout continuously passing the ball around the Warriors. With four minutes left in the half Sophomore Tri-Captain Defender Becca D’Andrea (Cumberland, RI) scored on a nice pass from Lauren Saritelli to give the Lady Knights a commanding 3-0 lead at the half.
Things weren’t much different as the second half of play began as Freshman Midfielder Jessica Sandin(Warwick, RI) scored in the fourth minute of play on an assist from Becca D’Andrea making the score 4-0. Just eight minutes later freshman forward Jessica McCaughey (Warwick, RI) scored on a beautiful header from a beautiful cross from the right flank from Freshman Forward/Midfielder Caitlyn McGarry (Warwick, RI) giving the Lady Knights a commanding 5-0 lead. Shortly after that McGarry sent another cross over to the goalmouth that was tapped in by freshman forward Jessica Lemos (Cumberland, RI) making the score 6-0. With fifteen minutes left to play McGarry sent the ball into the goal crease off of a designed corner kick play that was inadvertently knocked into the goal by a Massasoit player for an “own goal” closing out the score at 7-0.
Head Coach Dennis Grassini commented after the game, “Our team really came together today knowing that we had four regular starters on the bench nursing some injuries. This was an opportunity for some of our non-starters to get some significant playing time. It also gave the coaching staff an opportunity to move some players around to different positions We’ll take the win and go back to work on Sunday up at Springfield.”
The Lady Knights next game will be this Sunday as they travel to Springfield, MA to take on the Region XXI Rams of Springfield Technical Community College at 12:00 noon.
