Lady Knights Spike Springfield 3-1!
The CCRI Lady Knights volleyball team traveled to Springfield, MA to play the Pride of Springfield JV squad. The Lady Knights defeated the Pride three games to one: 21-25, 25-13, 27-25 and 25-18. With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 16-4 on the season.
The Lady Knights began the match slowly dropping the first game 21-25 but then rallied back to win three straight games to take the match. The Lady Knights were led by Annie Ragan (North Kingstown, RI) with 17 kills, 21 digs and three blocks followed by Paula Cadavid-Palacios (Lincoln, RI) who added 19 digs, seven kills, six aces and three assists and Karla Santizo (Warwick, RI) added 21 digs an ace and an assists. Head Coach Samantha Reyes commented “Annie Ragan was a force in the front row. Her attitude on the court is infectious. In this match Annie was looked upon to finish points as she has been in many of our games. She led by example, she told the girls in the huddle to talk, be aggressive, and win and she was the loudest, the most aggressive and killed the ball time and time over again. Paula and Karla were right behind Annie to protect her with any blocked balls. These two girls kept plays alive when we needed them the most.” Also playing well for the Lady Knights was Tri-Captain Courtney Piccirillo (Harmony, RI) led CCRI with 31 assists while adding 14 digs, three kills and two aces. Sam Niquette (Coventry, RI) had 13 digs, five kills and five aces. Niquette had just returned from injury and proved to the team she is ready to kick butt on the court. “Sam was put into a position where she never played before and dominated. Her spirit on the court is amazing and we are lucky to have someone full of life on our team” added Coach Reyes. Also contributing for the Lady Knights was Alanna Perry (Taunton, MA) with three kills two and a half blocks and four digs and Stephanie Jeffries (Providence, RI) had four digs, three and a half blocks and a kill.
The Lady Knights next matches will be this Saturday October 1st when they travel to concord, NH to take part in the New Hampshire Technical Institute Invitational beginning at 9:00am.
