The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team hosted the Rams of the Naval Academy Prep School from Newport, RI.  The Lady Knights defeated the Rams 92-43.  With the victory they extend their win streak to eight games and improve to 8-2 on the season.

The Lady Knights jumped out to a quick lead on the Rams and never looked back.  Navy Prep tried to stay in the game thanks in large part to Rams’ guard April Bernal who scored 26 of Navy Prep’s 30 first half points.  In the second half the Lady Knights shut her down holding her to just two points.  Head Coach Kate Lynch commented: “We had some mental lapses in the first half defensively. The second half we were able to buckle down and execute.”  The Lady Knights played tremendous team basketball both offensively and defensively with 24 assists, 20 steals, 50 rebounds and six blocked shots while holding Navy Prep to just 31% shooting from the floor.

Four Lady Knights scored in double-figures as CCRI cruised to victory.  They were led by Nyjah Porcher (New Britain, CT) with her second double-double of her career with 15 points and 13 rebounds while adding four assists and a game-high seven steals and Treedy Ward (Boynton, Beach, FL) scoring a game-high 26 points with three assists and three steals.  Also helping the Lady Knights was Jess Randall (Warwick, RI) with 12 points, eight rebounds and Jahira Smith (Norwich, CT) with 11 points, six rebounds, five steals, and a game-high seven assists.  Rounding out the Lady Knights’ attack was Jenna Ayala (Paterson, NJ) with eight points, nine rebounds and a blocked shot and Ashley Welly (Coral springs, FL) with eight points and five rebounds

After the game Coach Lynch added: “We had a solid effort from everyone tonight. We set some goals for ourselves offensively and defensively and we achieved most of them.”

The Lady Knights’ next game will be this Saturday December 17th when they will host the Division I power Avengers of ASA College from Brooklyn, NY at 2:00pm at the Vincent A. Cullen Fieldhouse located on the CCRI Knight Campus in Warwick.
