Community Service Day

Norman Bird Sanctuary

583 Third Beach Road
Middletown

The mission of this 325-acre wildlife refuge, the largest area of continuous open space on Aquidneck Island, is to provide quality environmental education to a wide range of audiences and preserve the land of diverse habitats. It reaches 40,000 people each year who attend programs and events and who visit the sanctuary to walk the seven miles of hiking trails.

Volunteers at this site on Community Service day will help install 200 bird boxes that immediately attract migrating birds, mostly tree swallows. It involves making a hole and pounding the stakes that hold the boxes into the ground. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves and sunscreen, if possible, and to wear long pants and sturdy shoes.

This site is now full. Thank you.
